DIGGING FOR DIGNITY

Our Thought for this week is:

The Thought Exposed

It is digging that results in dignity. By digging, I simply mean working. So, it is working that results in dignity.

“Prepare your outside work, make it fit for yourself in the field; and afterwards, build your house.” - Proverbs 24:27

There is an order of pleasure and comfort. The scripture sets it out for us. Until your work becomes fit, you are not fit to build a house. The order is - your work first, your house after! Service first; pleasure after!

May I let you know that dignity is not a function of “my father gave me (dashed me); it is your personal digging. Stop waiting for your father to die so that you can start having pleasures in his labour. You must do your personal digging, so that you will be dignified. Your equals will certainly mock you. They will wink their nose at you if all you have is your parents’ pleasures from their labour.

Isaac earned it! Jacob earned it! Yet their fathers were very rich in everything. But these people earned their own dignity.

“Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.” - Genesis 24:1

Hear the account of Isaac, Abraham’s son.

“Then Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him. The man began to prosper and continued prospering until he became very prosperous.”  - Genesis 26: 12 - 13.

Equally, Jacob followed the footsteps of his father Isaac. He dug for his dignity. Jacob never depended on his father’s wealth. He was a worker himself. Little wonder, Jacob had such an exceeding prosperity.

“…So the feebler were laban’s and the stronger Jacob’s. Thus the man became exceedingly prosperous and had large flocks, female and male servants, and camels and donkeys. - Genesis 30: 42 - 43.

Beloved, digging makes for dignity! Hard work does not kill, it only refines. Make your personal digging. What they give you does not make you but what you give is what makes you. You are only transferring what was given to you, because, it was not yours originally. Automatically, you are a channel and not a source. May you never die as a channel? May you die a source!

Bishop David Oyedepo said

“Cheap money equals cheap destiny. Earned money make quality destiny.”

Friends! Be wise! Make the most contribution to living, at your youthful age. Let God be satisfied that He did not make you for fun. Stop looking for cheap money! Stop looking for “take-it-for-free”! Start to give-it-for-free! Your destiny is real and not a mirage! Go for it! Hear what the Bible says of King David:

Then the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which cost me nothing.” So, David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.         II Samuel 24: 24

May I have the privilege of telling you this great truth to summarize that digging makes for dignity. Hear me!

“Pleasure is sweet when it is a product of labour. It is a burden when it is not acquired.”

Friends! The choice is entirely yours! May the light of this truth dawn on you!

“It is only those who dig (work) today that are dignified tomorrow.”
